As Taiwan’s leading auto distributor, HoTai launched Ho Ing Mobility in 2014, pioneering a 24/7 shared rental platform for both cars and scooters. With iRent at its core, the group aims to become Taiwan’s leading provider of integrated mobility services.

With rising demand for shared mobility and stronger competition, HoYun sought to enhance iRent’s brand value through digital experience—strengthening user relationships, reshaping service, and raising usage. Acting as design consultants, Goons worked with the team and developers to reexamine positioning, user journeys, and interactions, exploring the next phase of shared services.

Improving Rental Journeys for Every Scenario

Users face different needs—same-station returns, one-way rentals, or reservations—yet often struggle with complex steps and fragmented info. Goons reorganized flows and interfaces around decision paths to make switching needs more intuitive. Features like guided tasks, visualized vehicle status, personal points, and achievement badges improved efficiency and engagement. Through design optimization, iRent’s user experience was strengthened, building deeper advantage in the competitive sharing economy.

    How to simplify diverse rental scenarios for a more intuitive flow?

    iRent offers cars, scooters, roadside returns, and same-station returns. With so many options, users often have to switch between complex functions and flows, hurting efficiency and experience. Goons mapped decision paths from the user journey, streamlined interface guidance, and placed mode switching directly on the home screen. Key features like plan management, profile, and settings were consolidated, making switching and navigation more intuitive to meet every rental need.

    How to unify scattered information for a safer, more reliable experience?

    Real-time info, rental rules, and handling unexpected issues are all critical in car sharing. To reduce user uncertainty, Goons integrated key information and designed a complete system for abnormal cases. From booking to pickup to return, users receive timely reminders and clear guidance, ensuring every trip starts with confidence and ends smoothly.

    How to use gamification and brand voice to deepen user engagement?

    Beyond flows and functions optimization, iRent wanted to strengthen user connection. Goons introduced a badge and points system tied to service behaviors, building a gamified layer that boosts loyalty. A friendlier, lifestyle-oriented interface tone made iRent not just a mobility tool, but a daily companion brand.

    iRent is not just car rental—it’s a safe and fun journey

    The rental journey includes searching, booking, inspection, battery swap, and parking. Our design focused on helping users complete these tasks efficiently with clear information hierarchy, simple guidance, and visible status updates.

    Through card layouts and floating buttons, the map cleanly separates complex details and actions, making information easy to scan and operations intuitive. Key instructions or errors are highlighted with bold colors to quickly grab attention and keep users on track.

    We use illustrations to recreate real-life rental scenarios on screen, making tutorials like car pickup or battery swap easy to follow, while easing anxiety during issues like no cars, low battery, or return errors. Every step was designed to feel safe and reassuring.

    We also created an achievement badge system for “missions,” letting users collect beautiful badges while exploring different services. This reward mechanism increased involvement and made every rental feel exciting.
